World Day in Denmark 10th October 2009
This event was arranged by: Art & Music for Love & Care, a general charity in Slagelse, Denmark
The event Saturday evening in Slagelse started with a short welcome speech by the chairman of the local charity. He announced the message of support from Mary Robinson, President, Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative, former President of Ireland, for this unified day of action and hospice and palliative care around the world:
"Being able to access quality end-of-life care including hospice and palliative care is a basic human right. The fact that so many of the world's population are denied this right at such a vulnerable time in their lives is an affront to all of us.It is unacceptable that an individual's last months or hours of life are unnecessarily difficult when hospice care would allow that mother or father, son or daughter to live comfortably until the end.
We must intensify our efforts to listen to the needs of the dying and to put in place hospice care services that respond sensitively and appropriately to their needs".
Before the concert with dance there was offered a jazz-buffet and the famous piano player Søren Kristiansen played pieces from his CD's "With a song in my heart" - with Henrik Hartmann on bass.
