Wattanosoth Cancer Hospital is one of four hospitals on the campus of the privately-run Bangkok Hospital Medical Centre. The palliative care unit opened in summer 2007 and extends the work of the former pain unit. The director, anaesthesiologist Laksamee Chanvej, recorded 10 to 15 new patients each month during the four months that the unit was operational. Palliative care is provided for between ten and twenty per cent of patients in two special oncology wards.
