World Day 2008 - Australia

   Australia

St John of God Hospital, Bunbury

The St John of God Health Care symbol

represents the heritage of the organisation and its vision for the future. The cross is the symbol of Christianity, a reminder of the suffering of Jesus and the call to follow in his footsteps.

The pomegranate symbolises the generous self-giving required to reach out to people in need, and is open to allow the seeds to scatter. The five seeds represent the Values - Hospitality, Compassion, Respect, Justice and Excellence.

SJOG EVENTS WHPCD 2008
St John of God Palliative Care Service hosted a morning tea on Friday, 10th October 2008 to raise awareness of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, the SJOG Palliative Care Service and to thank individuals and service providers who have assisted us to provide support to patients and their families living in the community such as providing financial support, placing carers in the home to assist with child care, providing personal care / nursing care / cleaning / gardening / transport / respite care etc.

On Saturday, 11th October 2008, 30 participants undertook a hike on the Bibbulmun Track to raise funds for the new Palliative Care Day Programme. Funds have not been tallied to date as monies still keep coming in! SJOG provided lunch for the participants and money raised will go to the Day Programme.
