WORLD PALLIATIVE CARE DAY
The Hellenic Society of Palliative and Symptomatic Care of Cancer and Non-cancer Patients (HSPSCCNP) celebrated this global event with the following activities:
HSPSCCNP has dedicated this year's celebrations to the memory of Amalia Kalivinou, a cancer patient who fought through her blog and raised awareness of the Greek society on the problems and needs of cancer patients

The event was warmly received by the Greek media all over the country. As a result, the Hellenic Parliament was addressed by MPs regarding Palliative and Hospice Care issues, and the Minister of Health committed himself to discuss the related issues with the representatives of HSPSCCNP accordingly a Press conference was organized (October 10, 2007) in Athens. During which the President of the Society gave Amalia's family a notebook that had been entrusted with her, before Amalia died.
On October 5-8th the 9th Panhellenic Congress on Regional Anaesthesia, Pain Therapy and Palliative Care took place in Ioannina. The congress was addressed by internationally known speakers and attended by 530 participants.

During the Congress a common meeting between three societies HSPSCCNP, the Hellenic Society of Anaesthesiology and the Hellenic Society of Algology took place leading to the guidelines for the Organization of Pain and Palliative Centers in Greece.

The Hellenic Society of Palliative and Symptomatic Care of Cancer and Non Cancer Patients is a scientific, non profitable Society, founded in 1997 by scientists working with patients suffering from chronic pain or who are terminally ill. Our aim is to promote care for these people, to sensitise the State to matters concerning Palliative Care and to assist in any possible way the international research conducted around Chronic Pain and end stage disease.
